IceFloe of Sleet
Jan. 29th, 2021 09:37 pmLast night, I dreamed that the world was ending. All the people were going to die first. I hoped the trees and animals would survive somehow, but I didn't think so. There was a group of people who were spending their final days in a circle, chanting "OMMM" for the animals. I thought briefly about joining in, but then I was like, nah, that is not going to work. I was crying in the dream because I didn't want the beautiful world to be over. Oy. That's what I get for reading The Ministry for the Future. Someone put up a meme today where you give the title of the last book you read, with the added words, "with a chainsaw." I can't decide if it's funnier to say "The Ministry for the Future with a Chainsaw" or "Using Native Plants to Restore Community with a Chainsaw," which almost makes sense. The Sparrowhawk's was funnier than either of mine: "The Body Keeps the Score with a Chainsaw."
But, on the bright side, I stayed asleep and got a good long rest. Ungrateful me woke up late and promptly issued a general denunciation of everything, because I hate getting up late and not having time to get anything done. We had a cheering Zoom with Deb and the Prussian, and I finally got a shower, which put me in a better mood. I've started on two new bars of soap: the sandalwood shampoo bar, and Michel Designs "In a Pear Tree" pear-scented shea butter bath soap. My former shampoo bar finally reduced to tiny unusable bits after over four months of daily use. That's pretty good value, I think! The sandalwood is also very nice--pleasant but light scent, lots of suds, no residue. The bath bar is HUGE and will probably last for months and months as well.
The sun was out, and we did get out for a walk, which was one of the things I was irritated about in the morning. In Michigan in the winter, a sunny day is like the one in "All Summer in a Day." If I miss it, I feel as if I've been locked in a closet, because there may not be another one for awhile. The air was frosty, and the snow was crunchy, and the sun made crisp shadows for every twig and footprint. The Sparrowhawk built a fire in the fireplace, and while he Zoomed with his book club, I sat by the crackling fire and listened to some more sea shanties and other music. (I actually prefer to spell it chantey because of its French origins, but the other seems standard on the internet now.)
