EurasianShrew of Trill
Mar. 28th, 2021 11:10 pmDisappointment today, as we were planning an outdoor coffee hour with friends we haven't seen since October. The weather had been so nice, and we were all full of anticipation. However, it rained last night, and this morning it was 39, windchill of 28, and intermittently drizzling. This did not seem propitious, so we've put it off until next weekend. Along about the time we would have been having coffee, it started to sleet. Sigh. The Sparrowhawk and I made great progress on the jigsaw puzzle, instead. We have to finish it so I can remove it from the table and put on a spring tablecloth.
Queenie felt well enough to call me up and reassure me yesterday. She sounded congested and said she was very tired. It was great to hear her voice, and I remain hopeful that she will have a mild case.
Most of the excitement around here, such as it was, consisted of buying things, or trying to. I ordered some cheap t-shirts. Why, you might ask, when I have stacks and stacks of them already? Ah, but the ones I have all have some stfnal-adjacent images or words on them. I need some plain-colored short sleeved shirts for slightly less casual wear. Don't ask me why, but people outside fandom tend to be perplexed when you wear a shirt that says "KEEP CALM AND DIAL THE GATE" to a social event. Of course, it is a good conversation starter. On the other hand, my favorite "YOU DON'T KNOW ME: Federal Witness Protection Program" t-shirt tends to be a conversation ender.
The Sparrowhawk nobly assumed the "hunting the mastodon" mantle and went forth and ordered a replacement freezer. As is his wont, he had looked up all the possibilities at the local appliance store, created a stack of print-outs, and referred them to me, with commentary. We chose the one we thought fit our needs best. Surprise, surprise--we couldn't get one until September, because PANDEMIC. People are buying up all the freezers. They had ONE model in stock. Fortunately, it seemed good enough, so we bought it, and it will be delivered on Wednesday. It will be nice to have space for ice cream again! I tried to purchase some more garden-related supplies, but they were all out of what I want, also because PANDEMIC. Buying up garden supplies makes SLIGHTLY more sense than buying All The Freezers, I guess.
