Abalone of Bliss
Apr. 11th, 2021 10:16 pmI haven't been feeling good for the past few days--well, the past week really, if we are to be completely honest. Yesterday, I did some more reorganization of the past, given that I wasn't up for doing much else. I was interested to see that having achy bones at this time of April has apparently happened in previous years as well. So maybe I'm right to blame it on the weather. Anyway, I slept pretty well last night, and feel a little better today. So maybe tomorrow I will be A-okay. I did not do MUCH today, but I did change my lounge wear for some colorful, socially acceptable garments, wrote some email, and cooked another leg of lamb. It's a long story. I wanted a leg of lamb before Easter, but there wasn't one. There was one boneless lamb roast, so I bought that and cooked it, and we ate it all. So there was none left for the other three parts of Robert Capon's "Lamb for Eight People Four Times." On Wednesday, there WAS a leg of lamb. part of the shank had been removed, but other than that, it was complete. So I bought that. And then my debilitated state made me feel I couldn't face cooking it. Fortunately, it was still fresh after resting in my refrigerator for several days, so I took it out and cooked it today. We had a couple of slices for dinner, and then I divided up the rest of it into two packets of sliced meat and one container of bones, broth, and scraps. This will become soup, while the other two packets will become Lamb and Spinach Casserole, and Lamb Stir Fry at some point when we're hungry for lamb again. There won't be enough for eight people, but there will be enough for us.
It's been very rainy. The patter of rain was a comforting sound as I lay in bed last night, feeling debilitated. It's comforting because it tells me that I can't go and work outside anyway, so I don't need to fret about it. Tomorrow will be less rainy, I think, and I will have to get back to work on my garden.
Queenie is still in a holding pattern with the rash and the GI discomfort, but I think she's creeping slowly toward convalescence. Under More Exciting News from the Kids: the Nipper called tonight to tell me that he's made his first sale! It's a flash fiction story to an online magazine, and he will get paid! I'm so delighted! And so in awe of his tremendous perseverance, in this and many other areas. If I can just regain my equilibrium, I'll try to follow his example.
