OrangePeel of Bliss
May. 5th, 2021 10:33 pmI got a late start on everything, due to having my sleep cycle all messed up. Last night I listened to the clock striking endless quarters, and then two o'clock and then three . . . I'm pretty sure I fell asleep before four, but that's not very good. And then I woke up a lot in between, so it was really sort of nappish. Bleah. My therapist keeps singing the praises of hemp oil as a sleep aid, but I dunno. So far I'm too lazy to go out and get any. I've tried all manner of nostrums touted by various friends, and none of them ever work. I'm a hard case.
Anyway, I did eventually rush off to do some grocery shopping. Naturally, the sun came out and it was a nice though chilly day, but I didn't have time to get any yard work done. Maybe tomorrow! My seedlings are starting to get temporary leaves, which is exciting. I got to interact socially with one of the checker ladies whom I like, and when I got home I had a chat with Irish over the fence. It turns out he's trying to plant more native species in his yard, too! He recently planted a ninebark that is doing well for him. I told him if he wanted to take down the privet bush that grows in the strip between our yards and replace it with something else, we'd be fine with that. He's thinking of putting another redbud there, because they are native and very pretty. You can eat the redbud flowers! They have a slight, pea-like sweetness. I made a kind of knockoff Mexican-ish dinner for Cinco de Mayo--ground beef with taco spices and onion, cilantro-lime flavored rice, green beans (not particularly Mexican, but I had a coupon), tortilla chips, avocado with lime, tomatoes, sour cream and lots of salsa.
Things are looking up for the Coot Club, as Dick and Dorothea are on the job, and have already found several clues!
