Trillium of Bloom
May. 15th, 2021 09:49 pmThe thing about having a bad thing happen on a moveable feast is that then you get to have two anniversaries of it--the date and the feast itself. I realize this doesn't make sense to those who don't come from a liturgical tradition, so think something like Memorial Day, or Mother's Day. Not the Fourth of July, obviously.
I got some good news a couple of days ago in the form of email from the jury clerk of the county. I had been summoned to show up for jury duty on Monday. I could have asked to be excused due to my age, but I thought that since I was vaccinated, I should go ahead and do my part. However, I have now been informed that there will not be any court cases tried by jury next week, so I need not show up. This is the very nicest kind of virtue, in my estimation: the kind where you say yes, but then you never have to. So now I'm off the hook, and with any luck, at my age they'll never get around to asking me again. Civic virtue FTW!
I lost the momentum of my drive to get the raised beds finished. Too many variables. I did go so far as to water the two new beds and the two old ones abundantly and leave them to soak. It takes a good while for the peat moss to absorb the water. I may have to give them a second soaking. I brought all my seedlings out again, getting them accustomed to the out of doors. It's kind of like the old days when people used to leave their infants out in a pram to get fresh air. I wanted it to rain while they were out so they'd get watered nicely, but it didn't rain until after I brought them in again. I'll have to plant the cucumbers soon, because they're already twining and vining.
Last night after I blogged, we went out in the back yard again to look for the ISS. We were worried, because as usual, the clear sky hazed over after dark. But the glowing bright dot arrived right on schedule--SO bright, looking so close! It moved silently and swiftly across the sky, passing by the stars in the Big Dipper's handle, and disappeared into the trees.
