"May the Fourth be with you!"

Yes, it's May 4--Star Wars day! But instead of celebrating properly, I spent the day driving to my mother's to take part in her "care conference." The staff does this quarterly or so, for all the residents who are in some status other than independent living. They check the medication list, the resident's current care plan and current needs, and their mental acuity, and give them a chance to ask questions. My mother's condition is pretty good at the moment, so there were no crises to be addressed. I don't think it was really necessary for me to go, but the Duchess appeared quite anxious about the thought of being there on her own, so I did go just to provide reassurance. Which I hope I succeeded in doing. I'm never entirely sure if my presence is reassuring to the Duchess, or just annoying. Possibly both--I've never had an older sibling, so I don't know how it feels. I went early and took my mother out to lunch and the Dollar Store. I had hoped to do a few more fun things, but it was raining cats and dogs the whole time, I had to keep loading the walker in and out of the car, plus fending off the rain with the umbrella, so everything moved even more slowly than usual. We'll try it again when the weather is better. It rained all the way there and all the way back. The conference was late in the day, so I didn't get home till 7:30. In a gesture of defiance, I am now going to bed early!

I went to bed a little early TWICE this week. Then I woke up in the wee hours, but at least I tried!

It's weird, isn't it? I didn't get any extra sleep because I woke up at 4:39. So unfair!
