Lopseed of Bloom
Jun. 9th, 2021 09:52 pmToday is Old Folks Discount Day at the grocery store. It's also the day we went to the gym two weeks ago, so I could have called in to reserve a spot at noon. It was also a miserably hot, humid day. The Sparrowhawk wanted to mow the lawn (well, "wanted" in a certain kind of sense that doesn't involve huge personal enthusiasm), but he knew that if he did, he would not want to go to the gym as well. I could have hurried home from the store in time to get to the gym . . . but I just didn't want to rush around that fast. And I have a lot of things to do right here. So I decided not to go today. It's always a difficult balance.
When I got home, I needed to rearrange some things to make room in the refrigerator. I took apart chicken remnants, started the bones boiling and made chicken salad with the rest. I decided to clean and chop the leeks right away instead of stashing them in the refrigerator for later. I was going to go ahead and make soup, which I would then have frozen, but I ran out of gas at a certain point, so I had to put the makings back in the refrigerator. I also cleaned and stashed the strawberries. They get eaten more readily if they're already fixed. A public service announcement: know what's good with Nutella? Strawberries, that's what.
Well, then I had two phone calls in a row, which was a bit much. One of them was with Queenie, who had a stress test for her heart today. While I was on the phone, the house got kind of warm. We've been trying to avoid using the AC between 2 and 7, per the request of the power company (and their warning that they'll charge us more for power if we use it then). I got overheated and developed a migraine-like headache that was not fun. The Sparrowhawk touched my hand and became alarmed by the amount of thermal radiation coming off me, and started bringing me ice water. About a quart of water and some Advil later, I cooled off and recovered. No soup tonight, however. I'm up to Chapter 9 of Network Effect.
