EnglishIvy of Zenith
Jun. 13th, 2021 10:16 pmWoke up too early, but after a day of irascible melancholy, didn't want to have another one like that. The weather is slightly more reasonable, so I was able to go out and weed for an hour. This made me feel more optimistic about the state of the world. These are all the things that grow lushly and abundantly in my yard: thistles, mugwort, mint, spurge, English ivy, gill-over-the-ground (aka creeping charlie), and myriad shoots of redbud and Norway maple. I'm not even counting dandelions and other plants that grow where they aren't wanted but which I hesitate to classify as weeds. There's also grass, which sulks and languishes in favor of all of the above when in the lawn, but perks right up once it gets into a flowerbed. Redbuds are pretty and native, but if I let them all live, I would soon be living in a thick forest of redbud trees. I pulled up several very nice little hickory shoots. I love hickory trees, but they grow to an immense size and if they were allowed to stay anywhere near the house, they would destroy the foundations. Eventually it got too hot, and I retired inside. I finished off the proofreading of my second sold story. We also got a surprise text from Raptor, via the Nipper. He wanted us to admire the new Pokemon he had created, and we certainly did. He had painstakingly written out all the specifications for it. Ol' Grandad printed out a copy so we can put it up on the refrigerator. Seeing the Gopher Pokemon, with electric tail and cheek pouches--special abilities include "planting trees"--should certainly make the mornings more cheery.
