For some reason, this trip and other things are causing a lot of anxiety for no reason that has any logic to it. Because if it had logic, I could do something about it. But random anxiety just makes it harder to do anything about anything, and this is not at all helpful when you're trying to get everything cleaned up and packed for a trip. Normally, I find the best thing for anxiety is to do small, manageable tasks in a leisurely manner, with plenty of breaks to just relax, read a book, or whatever. But I CAN'T because packing, etc. What a PITA.

Anyway, I have handwashed three sweaters and my favorite hemp shirt. The sweaters all have moth holes in them, alas. My clothes are half-packed. After weeks of saying I was going to work on my garden any minute, I pulled a bunch of weeds around sunset and finally stuck the basil and a couple of remaining things that were in pots into the ground in a very haphazard manner. One can only hope they'll survive. The weather app claims it will rain like mad tomorrow--very inconvenient for travel--but then not rain at all for a week--very inconvenient for garden plants. Well--if it rains all day tomorrow, I'll just put off the trip. I'm definitely not going to drive the length of two peninsulas in a downpour. Pfui, as Nero Wolfe would say.

Mr. Science called this afternoon to check on a few last minute things. He said it would be fine if we wanted to put the trip off a day on account of rain. He went over the food items they have on hand, and observed kind of at the last minute that they don't have many vegetables and the store is far away, so we might want to bring some vegetables for them. And then he also allowed as how they were having the neighbors to dinner tonight, and the neighbors will probably drink up all their wine, so we might want to bring some wine as well. He also said he likes cookies . . . . So I added a last-minute trip to the store to my list of anxiety-propelled activities. Now we have brussels sprouts, green beans, cucumbers, peppers, some basil and cilentro, tomatoes, mushrooms, a bunch of bok choy, and a watermelon. As well, I will bring with me some of the vegetables and fruits I would otherwise have left to languish in the refrigerator, such as greens and apinach, celery, and some apples and oranges. If that doesn't do it, I don't know what will. Also a half dozen bottles of assorted wine, hopefully enough to replenish the depredations of these neighbors. I'd love to start drinking it immediately, but my stomach won't let me. Woe is me, I forgot the cookies, but I can pick some up tomorrow on the way out. Mr. Science confessed he has recently developed a taste for what we used to call, in our childhood, "store-boughten cookies." But not the marshmallow ones our father favored.
