ismoI'm having quite a spell of not wanting to do bloody anything. I'm not even going to try to explain why. Just because reasons. I really wish I had some great book to dive into, but nothing seems to attract me right now. The Sparrowhawk has been thinking about his birthday dinner, and he had a sudden desire for a bucket of chicken. We occasionally get cheeseburgers or pizza, or noodles, but we haven't had fast food chicken in years. He was trying to figure out where is the best chicken place. Tonight he went out and got a sample, which he shared with me. Imho, it just wasn't good. Jeez. Even KFC was better. The sides were strictly out of a can. It was disappointing. After that, I had to rouse myself from my torpor and beg for his company on an evening walk. Otherwise I would have just sat around and sulked, as one does after a failed takeout episode.
We had a Zoom appointment with the kids to wish Raptor a happy birthday. He was a bit late because he'd been out for ice cream. He was really tired but sweetly thanked all his relations for his birthday presents, and listened to a very haphazard rendition of the Birthday Song. Then he had to go to bed. In the aftermath, Tron and the Diva agreed that Popeyes was really good, so perhaps we'll try that.
I am really happy about one thing: my author copies of the long-awaited BOOK arrived. I get two copies of each edition--paperback, hardcover and "collector's edition" which has fancier binding and comes with some swag. The Nonesuch gets TEN copies of each edition, because he's the novelist! It will be a huge box when it shows up on his porch. So far, he's only received the paperbacks. So far, the book is getting excellent reviews, as I knew it would. He really is a terrific writer. But, even this fruit of our labors contains within it a seed of melancholy for me, because now I have to wonder if I'll ever publish anything again. Ah well--back to editing and correcting the tales of a younger me.
