Mushroom of Leave
Sep. 25th, 2021 10:25 pmGood luck sleeping in on a Saturday morning, when the diligent neighbors have summoned a landscaping crew with their snarling machines to start work at 8 am. I'M JUST SAYING. Oh well--no problem, it was a beautiful morning and probably just as well to be up betimes and enjoy the sunlight. We had a leisurely cup of tea and a scone, courtesy of Deb, who made the Sparrowhawk a little care package, because he liked her choice of baked goods.
To return to the tale of our expedition . . . well, first I should explain that the redoubtable Sparrowhawk found out what I probably did that vanished my half-formed post: Command-Z, typed quite by accident, will do it. And then, Shift-Command-Z should bring it back. Which it didn't in my case, probably because I had already moved on and typed other things in the box. I don't know. But, FWIW, if you ever have that problem, perhaps this information will be of assistance. Anyway. Aside from the hours and hours on unfamiliar highways in the rain, the trip was well worthwhile. We enjoyed the lunch with the Sparrowhawk's old friends, and then we moved on to spend the evening and part of the next day with Deb and the Prussian. Knowing it was Bilbo and Frodo's birthday, normally a day we celebrate with a traditional hobbit feast, Deb had prepared an appropriate repast. I confined myself to ice water due to the state of my stomach, but it was fun just to look at it. Her table is always a pleasure to the eye, because she uses a charming assortment of colorful serving dishes, and they hold a delightful array of fruits and vegetables, and in this case, also cheeses, cold meats, scones and seeded muffins as well as an apple tart. Our host at lunch gave me a packet of leftovers to give Deb, because she loves Middle Eastern food, and then she paid it forward by packing up some delicacies for us.
I was disturbed by how tired this whole thing made me, however. Oh well--I'm telling myself it was just an aberration, and next time will be better. Terrified of losing my mojo, I'm trying really hard to exercise at least a tiny bit. That didn't work out so well yesterday, when my time kinda got sucked up by a long phone call from yet another old friend with numerous medical problems. The Sparrowhawk was able to give her some information about her insurance that made her feel better on at least one axis. Today, we went for a walk in the morning and enjoyed the cool, refreshing, and sunny weather. I edited another chapter, in which, surprisingly enough, no one got killed.
