Yesterday and today were both lovely, super sparkly days like extra bonus prizes at the end of summer. Yesterday, I got up and was Doing Stuff until about supper time and then I just kinda crashed, forgot to do a number of things I wanted to do, and became woebegone, which resulted in staying up too late trying to distract myself. I got word that Queenie was out of recovery and in her own room at the hospital, and doing well. This was a huge relief--after she had to wait 4 1/2 hours past her scheduled time because the surgeons were too busy! Finally I was lured into a horizontal position, where the Sparrowhawk continued to read September to me. Finally, the denouement of this complicated plot approaches, as all the guns hung on various walls are taken down and begin to converge on the long-awaited party. Young Henry has finally taken matters into his own hands; malicious cousin Lottie is on the loose again; ominous music plays in the background as Pandora's frailty is not-very-subtly hinted at; old Vi is stalwart in black velvet, while her self-important son Edmund continues to be in need of a good smacking. Alexa, my favorite, continues to be charming, kind, and deserving of happiness that I'm not sure that sketchy bastard Noel can give her. It's like binging a whole season of a soap opera between the covers of one book.

Today I revisited the restaurant by the lake for an early lunch with Madame. I was quite touched when she returned my copy of John Carter of Mars: Gods of the Forgotten in fine shape, and took pains to give me some feedback! She actually read my story. How kind! She said it was fun and different, even though she really didn't understand parts of it. The windows in the patio room were open, and the sun was shining on the lake. It was so pretty that I hurried home after lunch and told the Sparrowhawk that we needed to pack up the folding chairs and go sit by the lake for awhile. It may be the last day that it will be so warm.

We made a quick trip to the store on the way home to get a couple of things I needed. Then the Sparrowhawk went to the gym and I did some cooking in anticipation of the trip--some low salt things that the Prussian might be able to eat, and a chocolate sponge cake that gets its rise from the beaten eggs, so it doesn't have to have high-sodium leavening agents. Now I'm tired. Tomorrow we drive to Deb's house, so I'm definitely not staying up late tonight.
