Silverbill of Ember
Nov. 5th, 2021 09:49 pmWell, just to make everything perfect, last night just before bed I discovered that a really nice older lady whose blog I read just lost her brother. She lives in western KS. He was life flighted to Kansas City, where he died before she could get there to say goodbye. I only know her from her blog, but it's still super sad. That damn bell just keeps tolling. Anyway, at some point I woke up and couldn't go back to sleep, so that kind of sucked. Four hours is not really enough to feel okay for the rest of the day.
I was able to amuse myself with cooking all morning, however. The Sparrowhawk went off the the gym--a new thing on Fridays. The Friday session will focus entirely on boxing. I realized we were out of bread, so I made a batch, and got a shower in while it was rising. While it was baking, I made a double batch of the strisce e ceci I had been thinking would be easy on Dr. Nurse's pregnant tummy. It's a tasty but soothing comfort food. And then I made a double batch of turkey meatballs with Italian seasoning so they could be oven-baked as soon as the bread came out. Then I cleaned up the kitchen, and then I made some fresh green salad to go with the pasta. I was just about done in time for the Sparrowhawk's piano lesson, at which time I handed the food (or half of it) over to Mr. Dr. Nurse to take home. I got a text from Dr. Nurse later on to say that he had just taken a bite of the pasta and said "Oh, this is wonderful." So that made my day. As did cutting the heel off a loaf of hot bread and eating it with butter.
I'm tired. I'll have 10,000 steps by the time I go to bed! Some of them aren't really steps, I think, but chopping and kneading action. Fitbit can't tell the difference. However, I did not fall asleep, and I did have a Zoom with Deb and the Prussian. They had to postpone it until the afternoon because of various appointments, and while it was going on, their friend Norm came over to take down a small tree that wasn't working out, with a chainsaw. Deb took the iPad outside so we could participate in the exciting episode where Norm chained the stump to his car and pulled it up by the roots. It was quite fun to enjoy the excitement from the comfort of our living room couch. Never a dull moment. Since I had already cooked, we got in a quick walk before dinner. Next week it will be DARK by then, waah! I also finished reading The Chessmen of Mars. It is quite weird, what with the taxidermy and the kaldanes, but it may be my favorite so far. I like Tara better than Thuvia--and she actually stabs a couple of people. Now I'm moving on to The Master Mind of Mars. I am desperate to rake some leaves off my front lawn, but the cooking took too much time.
