When the weather is like this, everything seems possible, though very, very briefly, because the season is so fragile and evanescent. The portal opens briefly. If you don't make it through, too bad; you won't get another chance until next year. I got out to rake leaves for about an hour, by which time I had run out of leaf bags. I only had five. The Sparrowhawk got some more for tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed that the weather will stay nice and I can finish this iteration of the front yard. There are enough frail golden leaves clinging to the tree that I'll have to do it again at least once. It was warm enough to sit in the back yard for awhile. Texting was taking place on the subject of the wedding and some of its arrangements. While this event gives me much joy, there's also a good deal of anxiety as I think of all the things that need to work out. And nothing escapes the depredations of COVID time. The latest news is that one branch of the family will not be attending because of the request to vaccinate and test before coming. I'm sure the Philosopher only included this precaution because there were people who would not have come without it. But the inevitable corollary is that some other people will not come because of it. I can only hope that there will not be lasting hard feelings. Alas, it seems to be another curse of COVID time that people are determined to take everything personally and fly off the handle as much as possible. I trust no one among my relations would ever do such a thing, oh my no . . . .

Then I had to hustle up some dinner. I planned to make beef stroganoff again, but the mushrooms were embedded in a fluffy white mold I never saw before. So I made a couple of hamburgers with baked potatoes and broccoli instead, and browned the rest of the meat to use when I get mushrooms again.

Breakthrough cases, even for the vaccinated, can be several days of illness. I can't understand why people won't get vaccinated to protect others. I'm sure they think they have a good reason, but what reason could be better than protecting those who are immuno-compromised, or older, or children?

Anyway, they could have just indicated they weren't able to come and left it at that, if they feel so strongly that they should be allowed to put others at risk. Giving the reason for their refusal was intentionally hurtful, imo. Just bad manners.
