ismoI think I'm flailing a little bit. Holidays. I'm just sayin'. I finally made it to the grocery store to get a few odds and ends. Other than that, I didn't get a lot done. I finally finished reading Llana of Gathol, which is short but seemed interminable. Now I have no further excuse not to start on my own plot outline. I did not really do any Thanksgiving prep, so I hope I can do everything tomorrow. The Philosopher sent us email about the seating arrangements for the reception. There is no perfect way. Either Queenie or Mr. Science can sit with us, but not both, because Baby Doc and Fritz need to sit with the Sparrowhawk, and I think that is only fair. All possible solutions have issues, and it just reminds me of previous issues and how I'm tired of it. I texted the Duchess and said we'd miss her at the wedding and wished her a happy Thanksgiving. She did not text me back. Of course, she might have been on an airplane or something. Unlike me, she doesn't carry her phone around all the time. I got some peppermint ice cream. My parents always used to have that for the holidays. I think ours was tastier, because they used to leave theirs in the freezer until it had little ice crystals all over it, plus they always bought the store brand. They bought the store brand of everything, and with the exception of the A&P Bokar coffee blend, it was somewhat less than optimal. Sigh. As you can see, I'm having flashbacks.
Yesterday, a super one-volume edition of The Lord of the Rings appeared on the doorstep. It was printed in one volume, with a slipcase and a dramatic red cover ornamented with the Eye and the Ring, like the original British edition dust jackets. The pages are gilt-edged, and within are included drawings and letterings of texts by J.R.R. Tolkien himself. I was inclined to tch at such an extravagance but once I'd run my hands over the binding and glanced within, residual opposition melted. It's the Holy Book of Scriptures! You can't have too many editions!
