It rained all night and into the morning, and then we got the 50 mph wind gusts. A couple of branches fell down in the back yard, but they're not too big. When it stops precipitating and all, we'll saw them up. By noon, when we arrived at the farmers market, it was snowing wetly, plop plop plop, but it was just above freezing, so nothing stuck to the pavement. A dispirited and diminished group of vendors were suffering from the chilly blasts. Our favorite farm lady was there and sold us a chicken, some sausages, some ground lamb, and stew meat for the Christmas pies. I got another bag of Northern Spies, and a bag of Ever Crisp apples (Honey Crisp's better cousin). We got carrots, brussels sprouts, and broccoli. I succumbed to temptation and bought some pasties and a chunk of that morel and leek cheese that was so good last time. The Sparrowhawk also succumbed to temptation, but in his case, it was doughnuts. We're provisioning ourselves for the visitors--but the doughnuts and pasties won't last that long. It's all about food and weather these days. Oh yeah, I pulled out another stack of books that can go. It doesn't seem to make any appreciable difference.

When I was culling books, after a while I made a list of the ones I was culling...it gave me a weird sense of making progress.

I need to get groceries.
