Well, at some point, things have to return to "normal." Tron and the Lumberjack went home yesterday, after staying an extra day to avoid the mess in the DC area. They got home without incident, but now their heat isn't on, so they've spent two nights heavily blanketed while waiting for it to be fixed. They have friends they can go to if it gets too cold. The Nipper and family went home Saturday, in time to just miss the meteor explosion over Pittsburgh. However, they did arrive in time for the Redhead to wake up in pain, go to the ER, and have her appendix removed. An interesting start to the new year. She is home now and doing well. We had company from December 15 until Jan. 3! So much fun . . . so much good company . . . so much food marching in and out of our house! I told myself that at some point I'd calculate how many dinners I cooked, but I haven't done that yet.

Today was an amusing minor adventure of its own. Tron got out of town just in time to escape our local snow storm. I had a prior arrangement to have lunch with my elderly but intrepid friend Madame, and in spite of the winter storm advisory, she wanted to keep the date. "I don't care about snow," she said. "I'm a skier!" She suggested going to a different restaurant from the one I proposed, because she thought it would be warmer. However, it turned out that one was closed until next week. I tried to notify her, but she'd left her phone at home, so she went there anyway. Once she'd returned home to get her phone, we set out for the bookstore cafe instead. By then, the wind was whistling and the snow was blizzarding. I got there before she did, and she texted me to ask if I was inside. I thought I'd better go out to the parking lot and accompany her, lest the wind blow her over. It turned out that was what she wanted, having forgotten her cane. We had a nice chat, and then the cafe closed early because of the storm, so I walked her back out to her car, giving her my arm. There are occasional advantages to being, shall we say, SOLID. I was about to leave when I noticed that she was waving at me from inside her car. She was having trouble getting it in gear. I waited while she tried again. Fortunately, she was able to do it on the second try. I watched while she pulled out onto the street before heading home myself.

I replenished my groceries yesterday, so we didn't need a thing and were able to enjoy a cozy afternoon, watching the snowflakes swirl and listening to Christmas music. I think I may extend Christmas up until my birthday this year. It's just that kind of a time.

Appendix! What a relief that was taken care of promptly. And that the issue didn't happen in the midst of travel.

Family plus food is bliss.

You are Madame's superhero.

The Christmas SEASON is a thing for a reason aside from the rhyme.
