SteelEye of Celeste
Jan. 23rd, 2022 10:03 pmWe had some modest activities planned for my birthday, like going out for breakfast, a thing we talk about all the time but somehow never manage. It's been ten days since the Sparrowhawk first tested positive, but he thought that before going out in public, he'd better use one of the tests the Philosopher kindly sent us. Meh . . . the pink line appeared again. He's still positive. His public health conscientiousness made him exercise an abundance of caution, so we decided that, as one of my father's German friends used to say, "maybe we better don't."
At this point I realized that I'd better pull up my socks, or I would just be moping all weekend, which is no way to spend any part of one's 71st year if one is fortunate enough to get that far. There really wasn't anything to mope about, for the Sparrowhawk cooked me a splendid breakfast, probably better than I could have had in a restaurant anyway: eggs, bacon, fried potatoes, and some of the piglet loaf, toasted. The kids sent me a lovely bouquet, arranged in a recipe box with a package of cards. It's a pretty box. I suppose now that I have it, I'd better use it, or their kindness will be foiled.
On the whole, it's been a pretty nice birthday. It snowed overnight, and I thought my first action of the new year would have to be shoveling the driveway. But our kind neighbor, Irish, has his snowblower working again, and he had come out early and fixed it already! We had a Zoom with Tron, and after that, I went for a walk through the fresh snow. We had a warm fire in the fireplace, read and listened to music, including the playlist Tron made for me as a gift, and talked to two more of the kids and my sister. I was going to get sushi from the grocery store, but Tron was shocked at this notion, and informed me I could not have grocery store sushi for my birthday. We ordered some from a nearby restaurant, and I have to admit it was much better. Some of my favorites--salmon roe and eel! The Sparrowhawk likes normal things like salmon and tuna. The cake from the frozen food case turned out quite well, and I finally obtained some of the special edition ice cream I was after: dark and white chocolate with tart cherry swirls. Yum. Movie night with the Three Musketeers . . . .
