I'm lacking in enthusiasm for blogging about my own life. Nothing seems shiny. As a result, you will now be treated to my complaint about the inferior vegetables I've been getting lately. Three eggplants I bought last week in anticipation of making moussaka for Mr. Science. THREE. This morning, I took them out of the refrigerator, and they had all gone mushy/rotten. I looked in the veggie drawer to see what else might be available, and a deliquescent cucumber called itself to my attention. As I may have mentioned, I'm trying to curse less, but this isn't helping me. I suppose one could blame supply chain issues, but jeez Louise. I also had a couple of apples that were getting a bit old, so I cut one up and started eating it. The last bite dropped from my hand, bounced off a couch cushion, somersaulted RIGHT into the crack between sections of the couch, and bounced when it hit the floor such that it went too far under the couch for me to winkle it out with my hand. I had to push the sections apart to retrieve it, by which time it was covered in dust and no longer edible, and then I had to sweep up all the unpleasantness that was revealed to bestrew the floor where it couldn't be viewed. The Sparrowhawk laughed quite a lot as this process unrolled, so at least someone got some pleasure out of it. Also, I found the mate to a mysterious sock that has been lying around since the kids were here. But it has holes in it, so now I'm going to throw them both out!

I've started reading Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult, and I'm not liking it. I almost never like mainstream novels, so it's probably not her fault. I know there's a stunning twist to it, which I've probably already guessed. Stunning twists rarely amaze me. Usually they just irritate me.

Yesterday, I got my pre-surgery physical for the cataract removal. They did an EKG, which surprised me. It seems like an awful lot of fuss for such a tiny operation. My EKG was totally normal, just like the last one from 2014 or whenever it was. I told my doctor I'd stopped taking omeprazole, and explained to her about how PPIs cause a rebound effect when you try to stop. I think this was pretty much pointless, as she barely listened, but I had to give it a try as a service to other patients she may have who are in the same fix.

album title!

the saga of the apple is all. too. familiar. when i'm making turmeric caps, the capsule pieces often skive off, and then i have to get down on the floor with a flashlight, and then i can seeeeeeee what's under the sofa. so much ugh. but you brightened sparrowhawk's day, so not a total loss.

good thoughts for your cataract surgery. it'll be so worth it. are you having both eyes done at the same time?

i was terrified, and held one of the assistant's hands *way* too hard ... and then it was over.

I heard good reports on the results of cataract surgery from a (formerly) NY friend, so fingers crossed all this effort yields excellent results.

Entertainment for the Sparrowhawk = Win.
