I was thinking fondly about sheep today. In the era before fleece and Goretex, things made of wool were the only thing that stood between my ancestors and the freezing cold. Without sheep, I probably wouldn't be here. I also owe my existence to the countless technicians of fiber who combed and spun, knitted, wove, and stitched. My woolly hat is off (briefly) to all of you. I really needed to get out of the house, and finally went for a walk--temperature 18, felt like 7. The breeze made my eyeballs hurt until I got used to it. It wasn't MUCH of a walk because basically everything is a sheet of ice under a thin veil of powdery snow, so I had to toddle along warily like a penguin. But at least I was out.

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day, but it would be difficult to have dinner together, because it's the Sparrowhawk's gym night. Usually, he has a little snack before leaving, I eat while he's gone, and then he has more of a meal when he returns. So he made me a delicious steak tonight instead. Steak, mushrooms, fried potatoes, and broccoli. Basic and perfect. Yum yum.

happy vday
