WinterCrown of Sleet
Feb. 20th, 2022 08:56 pmWell, my works of mercy stacked up on each other a bit this morning. I was still taking an early shower, pursuant to meeting Madame at 10 for breakfast, when Deb texted to ask if she could call and give me the news about her brother. He was going to the hospital for surgery--not the vascular surgery originally planned, but emergency stabilization of the vertebrae that had to be operated on earlier. Deb is like family to me, and that means her brother is like family to me. Anyway, I've known him since we were both tinies, although I haven't seen much of him because he lives on the West Coast. But my love and prayers are with him.
The Sparrowhawk came along with me to the rendezvous, at a new place I had not visited before, a coffee shop with Middle Eastern food, run by Kurds. The day started off sunny, but only 12 degrees, with an icy wind blowing. After while, we spotted Madame making her way along the pavement with her three-pronged cane and her hood pulled down over her face to keep out the wind. The Sparrowhawk went out and opened the door for her and escorted her. This coffee place is great. I had a cafe miel, but it wasn't what I expected from the last time I had cafe miel--too much milk and not enough caffeine! So I got the Sparrowhawk to bring me a double espresso. Madame professed herself surprised. She thought I was strictly a tea person. Ha. I can drink both tea and coffee--I can love both fair and brown, to put it more poetically. Hopefully, this was a bright spot in her day. Next come the viewing and the funeral for her, and cataract surgery for me, but we'll probably meet again after that.
When we came out of the restaurant, it had warmed up to 48 degrees, and all the ice was turning to slush. The Sparrowhawk and I went for a walk when we got home. Then I tried to work on my outline some more, but got nowhere. I need to FOCUS. The Diva called, out on a walk of her own. I changed the sheets while the Sparrowhawk played the piano, and then we had the rest of the moussaka and green beans for dinner. I really need to get some work done . . . .
