SilkenSheath of Trill
Apr. 25th, 2022 10:01 pmI was up at 3 am, due to incessant coughing, plus the new feature of stabby pain all over the left side of my face. I looked up "sinus infection." Yup. Took Advil; applied "hot compress" (really just a dishtowel soaked in hot water); looked up the nearest Urgent Care and made an appointment online. I knew they wouldn't do anything about my cough, but SOMETIMES they will give you medication for a sinus infection. The hot compress and painkillers reduced the pain to the point where I could sleep for a couple of hours. Then I got up and went off to the Urgent Care.
This is not a recommended activity first thing in the morning. I felt very OLD and INCOMPETENT as I tried to navigate their purported curbside registration system. Gave up and blundered inside where I somehow got myself registered, while my phone continued to text me querulously and ask why was I not registering. I got my ID card stuck in the machine and had to ask for help. "It's no big deal; this happens all the time," said the kindly receptionist, as she did a magic thing that liberated my ID. I would have liked to ask why, then, did they not redesign it so this did NOT happen all the time, but it was too early in the morning.
The staff were kind and efficient. A jovial doctor poked my facial orifices and, wonder of wonders, agreed with my expert diagnosis that I have a sinus infection. He prescribed azithromycin and a cough suppressant. I appreciated him very much, because by this time I was about ready to fall on my knees and wheeze "Doc, you gotta help me!" like a battered prize fighter in some old movie. I am hoping for some relief. My face doesn't hurt right now, so that's a step in the right direction. It would be nice to get my voice back. I had two phone conversations today, one with Queenie and one with the Nipper, who turned 36 today! The Sparrowhawk and I called him up and "sang" the Eopee birthday song. It was a particular pitiful rendition--probably the kind of thing he'll keep on his phone forever to replay when he needs a laugh.
The last time the Sparrowhawk went to the store, he bought a fresh batch of tulips and a half-price Easter lily. They look and smell delightful. He's the best.
