Mission accomplished. Drove to the air b&b where Queenie and the Fireman were staying--an hour and a half. It was a darling tiny box of a cottage, newly fitted with matching retro teal appliances, near a park and some shops and restaurants. Their plan is to stay there on a regular basis, giving them a home base for the grandkids to visit. Much nicer than a hotel room. We sat quietly and visited, very refreshing. Queenie's daughters gave her the most beautiful Hermes scarf for her birthday. Then we drove to a bigger restaurant in the next town--20 minutes--where we met the Duke and Duchess and Mr. Science and had dinner. Everyone spontaneously ordered the same thing--walleye! Except the Sparrowhawk who was not feeling well. He had soup. I was worried about him. He doesn't usually have stomach trouble the way I do. We had to say goodbye to Queenie at that point. She and the Fireman could not come to the Duchess' place because they were visiting the Fireman's dad in the morning and then going home. We drove to the Duchess' house in the country--an hour? But in the rain, and there's a lot of mud. We hung out until about 10 pm, when everyone faded. The Duchess put us up, along with Mr. Science. In the morning, the Duke had to go to work, but I was up early enough to say goodbye. The Duchess gave the rest of us some breakfast, and we continued to enjoy Mr. Science's company until he had to drive back to Pittsburgh. We hung out with the Duchess until after lunch, and then drove to Deb's house--only half an hour. We visited with them and stayed the night, then started home about 1:30. Two and half hours, pouring rain about half the way, then just a mild rain. It was wonderful to see family and friends. The conversation was wide-ranging and weird in the way that only happens among people who have known each other forever and know where all the bodies are buried. I'm not capable of making this brief account more interesting. I can't wait to sleep in my own bed . . . .
