Jul. 27th, 2022 08:51 pmFeeling recalcitrant to posting, because I don't have enough interesting things, and also I'm tired at night. Still plugging away at the WIP, which is a good thing. This retirement thing is not nearly as relaxing as it is cracked up to be. I always seem to have something on my schedule. Monday: haircut; Tuesday: lunch with Madame. Today, Dr. Nurse came over with Bird Baby while Dr. Music was giving the Sparrowhawk a piano lesson. She had texted earlier "Are we still on for lunch?" and I panicked slightly, thinking "Lunch? Is that what I said?" Well, it probably was. So last night while I was trying to get to sleep, I was riffling through the contents of the refrigerator in my mind and trying to work out what I could come up with. (Thinking about recipes is actually one of my favorite things to do while trying to sleep. It's a good alternative to anxious thoughts.) My supplies are still depleted. I scurried around in the morning and made blueberry muffins and a frittata with potatoes, sausage, and cheese in it, plus herbs from the garden and three tomatoes from the garden, sliced up on the side! Well--parts of three tomatoes. They were nice and ripe but something had taken bites out of them, so I had to cut around those. I got to hold Bird Baby for quite awhile so her mom could eat in peace and quiet. Still adorable! Dr. Music had another lesson immediately thereafter, so I put his portion in containers with a spare fork, so he could eat in the car while Dr. Nurse was driving him there.
The Sparrowhawk joined Madame and me briefly for lunch yeaterday, and then went to the back of the store to finish proofing (for the third time) the book he has been working on for his brother Fritz. It's a book of essays by Fritz that the Sparrowhawk and Baby Doc decided to self-publish for him several years ago. It has taken that long for Fritz to finish the writing and the Sparrowhawk to get the program licked into shape. I think Baby Doc's part is just to bankroll it, as he has neither writing nor digital skills. We're hoping this will be the final iteration.
After lunch today, I went back out to the garden and picked two Asian eggplants and a small batch of purple pod beans. We had the beans with dinner. My squash and cucumbers are still producing only male flowers! The internet says be patient and the female flowers will eventually show up. I certainly hope so. I also put away two sets of laundry. The Sparrowhawk vacuumed the stairs and the entry way, and went to the gym.
