DazzleTip of Simmer
Jul. 30th, 2022 08:58 pmWell, after a pretty good day, one which is less so. Today, the birds began to warble cheerfully at 5:36, a little earlier than usual. I was still awake, pressed by too great a weight of memory. I've gained much dexterity in repelling dementors, but sometimes they are still too much for me. I got up and watched the sky gradually brighten. When I wake up so early, I can't really go out and work in the yard, because I don't have my gardening clothes on, and I don't want to go and get them, because it might wake up the Sparrowhawk. Hm. Stating the problem has just solved it, as I realize I could put my spare pants in the spare room! What a good idea--so noted. Anyway, this morning, I hadn't thought of that yet. So I was sitting around mopishly. Eventually I took up my project of reading about "The Pilgrim Road to Santiago," and learned some curious facts about the legend of Roland and Charlemagne. Then I transcribed my notes on the Lumberjack's dissertation defense (editor's note: I had almost NO comprehension of what he was talking about!) I had an early cup of coffee, necessitated by only 5 1/2 hours of sleep. And then it was daylight, and then the Sparrowhawk was up.
We had our usual delightful Zoom with Deb and the Prussian, postponed from yesterday, when Deb was helping to set up a quilt show. I doodled around the edges of my plot hole and came up with some possibilities, but have not yet written them down, and they really don't count until they're in black and white on the page. We gave the modern version of "Mansfield Park" another try, because my memory of just how abominable it was had faded with time. Oh dear. It is terrible. Another great example of "Why don't they just follow the book?" in action. Sigh. WHY do movie makers insist on taking a work by a writer of genius, and then assuming they can do better? It never works.
