Yesterday's cooking extravaganza: BLTs, with bacon fried up by the Sparrowhawk, slices of an enormous and meltingly ripe pineapple tomato, and local lettuce. I also made potato salad, green beans, and beets. Today, I did a little bit of cleaning around the edges, and was going to go out and work on the yard a bit. But after the kids had their swim, Tron went out to do errands and came back with lattes, and then we went to work on the jigsaw puzzle again. And besides, it was too hot for yard work. She had offered to cook, but really no one wanted to cook very much. We got Chinese takeout instead, which suited everyone. Then we watched some House Hunters International, and the Lumberjack shared the thesis of the essay he's writing about Solaris, and since I hadn't cooked, I made brownies. Tron had been reminiscing about stealing brownies from the kitchen when I made them for my writers group, long ago. I wasn't sure which recipe she remembered, so of course, an experiment was in order. Apparently they were judged adequate, whichever recipe they were.

I call this recipe "the good brownies." They are extremely rich and fudgy. I've done them with the cayenne and without. I can't really identify the taste of the orange, so I only did the orange zest one time.
