NuttingHoard of Leave
Sep. 27th, 2022 08:58 pmIt's quite chilly today, with intermittent, inexplicable bursts of rain. We were busy, for a pair of hermits. First came Bird Baby, who cried with great determination when her Daddy left. This is the second week in a row she has done this, and I'm pretty sure that she has started noticing that some people are not Mommy and Daddy. She was definitely making the kind of noises that I remember as meaning "I'M TELLING YOU PEOPLE THIS IS NOT GOOD! WHY IS NO ONE LISTENING?" We walked her around for maybe fifteen minutes until she stopped and fell asleep. When she woke up, she just lay on the Sparrowhawk's shoulder, watching the leaves move in the wind, and the play of light on them. (The sun happened to be out at the time.) Then she woke up for real, and was her usual merry self. So I guess she forgave us for being the wrong people.
The realtor who sold us our house has rather surprisingly moved into our neighborhood. She completely gutted and renovated her house, and then invited everyone to come over and socialize. She is very energized about the notion of having what she calls "a strong neighborhood association" and wants to make a directory and have events and whatnot. I'm okay with that and kind of enjoyed meeting more neighbors. I say "kind of" because some extroverts, especially if they are well-to-do and successful, have a way of talking that I'm not entirely comfortable with. I'm never sure if they're talking to me because they really want to, or because they hope I'm a sales prospect--a hope that is sure to be disappointed. However, there were also some people that I actually like. And there were macarons.
