An amusing story about my mother, for a change: on Sundays, Queenie usually calls her at 7:00 or so. And then I make my usual check-in sometime before 8:00, when they've concluded their chat. Queenie texted me tonight, worried that she had left five messages, and that Mother had never picked up the phone or returned the call. So I took over and left a couple of messages, without response. Just to reassure everyone, I called the care supervisor and asked if she would please check to make sure Mother was all right. She called me back fairly soon to assure me that she was in my mother's room and that Mother was fine--and was talking to someone on the phone. Who could that be? It was Mr. Science. So Mother had plenty of checking-up on tonight.

Earlier this week, I heard that the music group would be playing some Grateful Dead at this week's service. This morning, I decided to dress accordingly, in a tie-dyed t-shirt (my Failed Suicide Cult shirt, in fact) and a bright-colored flowing skirt. We only did one piece, as it turned out, and we didn't even have time to rehearse, so it was pretty seat-of-the-pants! Or seat-of-the-skirt, in this case. But it was fun. The song was "Ripple." Very poignant.

Reach out your hand if your cup be empty--
If your cup is full, let it be again.
Let it be known there is a fountain
That was not made by the hands of men.

There is a road, no simple highway
Between the dawn and the dark of night . . . .

I bet the Dead played seat-of-the-pants pretty often!
