RushWind of Ember
Dec. 3rd, 2022 09:57 pmI think I must have overdone it yesterday, in my eagerness to get better, because I didn't sleep well last night. I was really tired, but no sooner had I dropped off to sleep than I woke up coughing. I dozed off again, and woke up sneezing, which is the worst. At that point, I could not stop coughing, so I gave up and went downstairs for awhile. Finally I was able to go back to sleep for awhile. But it made this a less than optimal day. I woke up late. While the Sparrowhawk was having his delayed piano lesson, I intended to put away laundry, but ended up wrestling with my sari wrap skirt. I keep trying to figure out how to tie it. I watched a video and tried to imitate their method. It did not work. Bah.
I planned to make soup, but thought I'd get a phone call to check on Wol out of the way first. Much to my surprise, he said he was in the hospital. He had a fall at his assisted living residence, and they insisted on putting him in an ambulance and whisking him away for tests. He was pretty grumpy about being stuck in the hospital, a feeling that I totally understand. Having been through this with my parents, I know how horrid it is to have no control over anything, and to be parked in a hallway outside the ER for FOUR HOURS. As Wol said, "I could have gone home and they could have called me when they had a bed." But he's there now, and he doesn't really know why or for how long. Dementia makes it hard to understand these things even when they tell you. I'll try to call him tomorrow and see when they're going to let him out. This eventually led to a bunch more texting with more people, a process that made ME grumpy.
I did a bit more writing. I feel becalmed off Barsoom. I hope getting over this cold will make me more prolific. I figured out how to put the sari skirt on and wore it to church. But I still hadn't made soup, so the Sparrowhawk decided he would go and get cheeseburgers. This took a very long time because they were understaffed, and the staff that there were had an episode of confusion. By the time the mighty hunter returned with his prize, I had also prepared the soup. So now we'll have plenty to eat later. We seem to have reduced our stock of Christmas cards greatly--yay--so I ordered some new ones from the Met. I hope supply chain issues won't prevent them from being delivered before New Year's.
