St. Lucy's Day
Dec. 13th, 2022 09:43 pmThis was not a very good day, so perhaps the less said about it the better. It was St. Lucy's Day, once the shortest day in the year, before calendar reform. It was plenty short and dark even with calendar reform, but maybe that was just my attitude. I almost forgot to make St. Lucy buns. Horrors! But I remembered just in the nick of time. They are saffron buns with currants in them, or this case, raisins, because we were out of currants. It would have been a pity if I had forgotten, because they were the best thing about the day. They rose nicely and came out of the oven soft and golden. I put a sugar glaze on top. I'd like to sit and eat buns all night and not even try to sleep because I have come to dread the whole process. But I'm not going to. Perhaps the thought of buns in the morning will help me make it through the night.
