Another not so great night, hence a not so great day. I went out and did a minimal amount of grocery shopping. Put away laundry. Worked on my ending. Cooked some chicken and mushrooms with provencal herbs for dinner. It was quite nice. I got not one but two calls from Madame tonight. In the first, she sounded rather frantic and it was hard to make myself understood. In the second, she had calmed down quite a bit and let me Facetime her so she could "hear" me better. In both, I agreed to come over to her house and visit tomorrow at lunchtime. Earlier, her daughter texted me to ask if I could drive Madame to a follow-up appointment with her PCP next week. The daughter has used up all her time off for the nonce, and they don't want Madame to drive herself. I agreed to do it, as I'd already decided to do when it came to this, which I was pretty sure it would.

The Sparrowhawk picked up a book I asked him to reserve at the library: Stolen Focus, by Johann Hari. It is subtitled "Why You Can't Pay Attention--and How to Think Deeply Again." I think it has some pretty important ideas in it. I managed to read the first three chapters while the Sparrowhawk was at the gym--and was only interrupted by Madame's calls and some texting from my sister, LOL. I recognized myself half a dozen times in those chapters. Interestingly, judging by how fingered the pages are, it looks as if most of the people who read it before me got as far as I did. But after chapter four or maybe five, the pages look much fresher and less handled. This indicates to me that possibly people are not finishing the book. Which would be ironically in line with the book's statement in chapter four that people now have difficulty with sustained attention to reading.

Very Sherlockian book evidence.
