RedSquirrel of Sleet
Feb. 14th, 2023 10:00 pmThe dementors have become chocolate resistant. We're in trouble now. Going to the dentist yesterday did not help. It was my day to have them check my gum measurements, which means getting poked with a sharp pointy thing approximately somewhere between 100 and 150 times. It's not that it is extremely painful, but it's kind of a lot of poking when it's all added up. She was about halfway through when I started thinking "I need a hug." She threatened me with a referral to the periodontist, but after rechecking some measurements, and talking to the dentist, it was determined that I could get along until my next cleaning. Whew. I shouldn't say "threatened," because she is a very nice and conscientious young woman who kindly suggested for my own good that perhaps I should see the periodontist. It just feels like a threat when you're upside down with a masked expert sticking pointy things in your mouth. Anyway you're welcome, because I'm sure you take the trouble to read this blog because you like hearing about dentists.
Unfortunately, Valentine's Day started off with the dentist too. This time it was the Sparrowhawk who had to go, and he really suffered, poor man. He had to have a root canal and a crown replacement, so he was there for awhile. Yesterday I was tired out because of the dentist, and today it was him! We got assorted noodles from the noodle place for dinner. They were tasty and spicy, and easy to manage for our poor indignant choppers.
Before I went to the dentist yesterday, I had to drop the Sparrowhawk off at the church for his volunteer job of counting the money. I was waiting at the end of the driveway for a troop of kids from the school to pass before I pulled out. They were walking with their teacher. They were all clad in their assorted uniforms of plaid and khaki with white shirts, and there was not a jacket among them. It was 38 degrees out, and the sun was shining. Of course they weren't wearing jackets for a walk of a few blocks. THIS IS SPARTA. Oh, no wait, it's not--Sparta is north of here. But THIS IS MICHIGAN. I heard from Queenie that it was 45 in Florida, and all the natives put on their puffy coats. It's a matter of perspective, I guess. Like the internal weather.

Date: 2023-02-15 08:04 am (UTC)(i have childhood dental trauma, which i deal with by getting into a new dentist's chair and saying "i. am. terrified. i might sound relaxed and funny, but my inner 8-yr-old is *wailing*." and then they're fine with me holding up a hand for "nope, i'm about to lose it, we need to take a break now.")
first year i lived in hawai'i, the temp got down into the 50s, and all the locals put on scarves and hats. how we laughed. third and last year, i was wearing scarf and hat like everybody else.
and kids, you know: their metabolism is so *fast*. bless 'em.
