Mardi Gras has come around. There was not a lot of reveling here. No parade, no rowdy spectators, no swag flung to the crowd, The Sparrowhawk went and picked up our order of pacski from a downtown bakery in time for morning coffee. They were very, very good. The raspberry and the berries and cream sandwich were undoubtedly the finest. I have doubts about the purple sweet potato filling with coconut milk. That one was just weird. He also succumbed to a mini king cake, which I don't know why they were making for mardi gras, because it's really an Epiphany thing. It turned out to be like a cinnamon roll with green and gold frosting and sprinkles. There's supposed to be a tiny plastic baby inside, but there wasn't. We also had garlic kielbasa for dinner, followed by strawberries and cream. This little extravaganza is supposed to be followed by the abstemious period of Lent, but I have hardly any vices left. I've heard that despair is a sin, but it would be no sacrifice to give that up, if I only knew how! Most of my other flaws are in that same category--"I wish I knew how to quit you!" But I don't. And most of the things I could give up, I probably shouldn't. Give up chocolate? Might as well invite the dementors to come and live with me year round. As they pretty much already do. They hang out in the garden shed until it gets dark, and then they begin to prowl around. This makes the whole concept of Lent a bit perplexing.

Tomorrow we have a lovely ice storm to look forward to. I spoke with Madame this morning, because I had been thinking she might be moved into her new respite care apartment. However, she denies all knowledge of that happening this week and says she will be at home as usual. I wonder. Her daughter may have a different view of the situation. Anyway, I will go over there and see what's up. I'm hoping the freezing rain won't start until mid-afternoon so I can safely convey her to lunch and back.
