We had a pleasant, busy day, after being up far too late at Easter Vigil last night. They started out in the traditional way, lighting the paschal candle in the dark outside and then carrying it into the church, where they did some number of readings. Nine is the maximum. We lost count, but although we don't agree about how many, we're pretty sure it wasn't nine. Then several people were baptized and confirmed. The music department went to town and sang perhaps more than I would have preferred. I admire their enthusiasm, but I'm too old for a nearly three-hour service! Once upon a time, we did these things, and then had a midnight party afterwards! Not this year. We came home and had a very small treat before collapsing into bed.

After some bacon and hot cross buns for breakfast, we planned to Zoom with the Philosopher and family, but young Aquinas the wonder child fell asleep inconveniently. We waited around for awhile to see if he would wake up. In the meantime, I prepped the brussels sprouts for being roasted along with the ham, and washed some salad for later. Then we headed out for a walk. It was a beautiful day--65 degrees and sunny! The daffodils have started to bloom, after biding their time through several cold spells. Of course, as soon as we were well on our way, the Philosopher called to say they were ready to visit with us. We found a bench under a tree, the Sparrowhawk updated his app, and we Zoomed by phone. Aquinas is still adorable, and his parents nearly as much so. I was quite happy to be chatting with them out of doors, amid the chatter of birds and the waving of pine branches in the breeze, rather than inside at home. We finished up the walk after they signed off. Scylla are carpeting the woods with their intense blue. I've seen a couple of hawks cruising around today. They must be hungry.

When we got home, we were both tired out and needed a nap, so we had to put off the Diva, who asked if we wanted to call. By the time I got up again, the ham was done and the Sparrowhawk had finished putting dinner together. He insisted I eat first, which was probably a good idea. Then we had a lovely chat with the Diva, followed by another one with the Nipper, with a cameo by Raptor, who passes in and out of phone conversations like a shooting star. And now I'm going to pass out of this conversation and hopefully into my bed again. It seems to be a favorite activity at the moment . . .
