I woke up and came downstairs a little before the Sparrowhawk. Suddenly, the speakers started playing "59th St. Bridge Song." He made it happen through his phone as he was coming downstairs. His song preceded him. He appeared in the doorway and we both laughed and said "Happy Anniversary!"

I keep having little flashbacks of being at the lake. This would be such a perfect time to be there, because we're having the hottest week of the year so far--temperatures around 90 for the next few days. Still, we were determined to have a nice day, and we did, although a rather low-key one. The most important thing was that, as we hoped, the Sparrowhawk was feeling better than yesterday. So he's on an upward path, and this is cause for rejoicing. I must be feeling better, because I felt compelled to do something. I gave my bathroom a quick cleaning, changed the towels and took the old ones down to be washed. Somewhere in the midst of that, Madame called me, confused as usual about what was going on. I explained again that yes, I was still sick and couldn't come and see her at the moment. Apparently her daughter is also home sick--though at this point I'm sure it wasn't my doing--and her son had to go into the hospital with a bad case of kidney stones! So she is once again alone at her house, WITH NO KEY TO THAT CAR! Boy oh boy. I am going to hear about that for a long time to come. I hope Mademoiselle will feel well enough to go over there tomorrow, because she really should not be left alone for too long. She was chipper as anything, however; perfectly healthy and sitting in the sun. I'm so relieved that I did not infect her! And she was quite gracious about my dereliction.

You know you are not quite well yet, however, when right in the middle of folding the laundry, you quite suddenly feel light-headed and think "well, really--why SHOULD it be folded? Who cares!" I finished it anyway, because I didn't want it strewn over the bed, but then I went and sat down. We took our tea outside and enjoyed the sunny day before it got too hot. Eventually the sun pushed us back inside. After resting up a bit, the Sparrowhawk made us some delicious steak and mushrooms on the grill. We drank a tiny bit of champagne we happened to have left over, and ate the remaining strawberries. That was our anniversary dinner, and probably a better one than we would have had if we'd eaten out! Fifty two years! Aren't we lucky!

52 years!

I am so very late in commenting (because vacation), but I'm so glad to hear you had a lovely anniversary dinner with the person you love best in the world. Belated happy anniversary wishes to you!

(I am amused that I came into the world precisely 11 days before you got married.)
