BarnSwallow of Bloom
Jun. 4th, 2023 09:06 pmIt stays light so late these days! Now, at about 9:15, it's still only twilight. It won't really get dark until 10 or so. I feel I should be outside doing something, and wonder why I haven't been. Then I remember--oh that's right, I had covid. Bummer. Maybe pretty soon I will be out and about more. The Sparrowhawk sought advice from Dr. Nurse. She said their protocol at work was that they could go back to work five days after onset of symptoms, if the symptoms were improving, but they'd have to wear a mask for five more days. The tests were basically treated as irrelevant. Guidance is confusing as usual--yes, but maybe no, but probably yes. Maybe. We're probably being too cautious, and could go out with a mask. As for those pesky symptoms, both of us get up and start in doing things--hey look, we're totes normal!--only to run out of gas with a thud at some point.
The heat wave has come down a bit, to 80s-ish instead of 90s-ish, and with the low humidity, that makes it very pleasant out. We really need rain, though. We're in a red zone for fire danger, and there was a wildfire up in Grayling that briefly closed I-75. We're getting smoke from Quebec now! My spot removal process was outstandingly successful, so my shirts are pristine again. It continues to amaze me how much spare food we actually have around here. I once again gleaned enough veggies from the refrigerator to prepare a dinner dish: most of a red pepper, some carrots, an onion, the remnant of a bunch of bok choy, some celery ribs, some cherry tomatoes that were looking a little shriveled, and some mixed chopped herbs that, surprisingly, were still good. I chopped them all up and sauteed them a little bit. Then I chopped up some chicken breasts (yep, there are still some of those in the freezer), coated them in flour and seasonings, browned them, threw in some chicken broth I made earlier, cooked until done, and then put all the veggies back in. Eaten over rice, it had a very nice flavor. I still have a tomato and some celery, but I really am getting down to the end of my fresh produce! Maybe tomorrow I will venture forth to replenish.
We drank our tea in the back yard while reading and chatting. Then I went back inside to Zoom with Moonmoth and the Nonesuch. Moonmoth has had an invitation to a new-to-her con that sounds exciting. It's always nice to hear that something nice has happened to a friend. I continue my reading about the Hungarians, though I am out of my depth at all times with these people.
