Jun. 26th, 2023 09:50 pmNothing is wrong--I am just lethargic. I had a couple of bad nights and thus got very tired by nightfall. We did some fun things this weekend, like obtaining an entire flat of strawberries, which I've been craving to get before the season ended. It's been a short season because of weird weather, and strawberries are insanely expensive. I thought we were having a potluck, and that I'd give some of them away there, but it turned out I had the wrong date in mind. Oops. Now I have to figure out who to share them with. Meanwhile we're just eating them for every meal. They are so good.
We also attended a performance of "Further Up and Further In," a one-man play starring Max McLean as C.S. Lewis, and almost entirely composed of Lewis' own words. It was really a tour de force and very enjoyable. There was a dinner afterwards, where I had to feign the extrovert and make conversation. Fortunately, there were some real extroverts at the table, and they were happy to take over! One of them was a 90-year-old of Lebanese heritage, who had gone to the same high school as the Sparrowhawk, 20 years earlier, and knew one of his high school friends, who is also Lebanese. It's a small town.
Today I spent FAR too much time on the phone with various people. I was not intended by God or nature to talk so much. With people. Argh. I had barely time to put on some random pants before we went to the bookstore as planned, to pick up the copy of Greg Frost's "Rhymer" that I ordered. We were in a writers group together, long ago, and I was happy to see that he had sold a trilogy. It remains to be seen if I can read this before Manhattan with all its publishing houses is fossilized beneath the rising sea. My track record of reading is not good. I was feeling extremely grumpy, so it was good to be isolated in the back room where the Sparrowhawk could nap in a comfy chair. And I couldn't waste time on the internet, because I didn't bring my laptop. Yet somehow I was not enjoying myself. It rained last night, and again today, which I'm very happy about. Tomorrow, if no one calls me up, perhaps I will get lucky and be able to do some weeding.
