And it is also the Philosopher's birthday! We left a message with the Birthday Song on his answering machine.

It snowed quite a bit in the night, and we woke up to fluffy white covering everything again. It wasn't really a lot of snow--not like what people are getting on east coast! I had to sweep off the car, but by the time I wanted to go out, most of the snow had melted away from the pavement, so no shoveling today. I made my way downtown to Black Lives Matter. We had a dozen or more people, which is fewer than usual, but good for a snowy day. We got a lot of positive honks and waves, and one guy in town for a conference who came over and chatted with us. I'd say the ratio of supporters to naysayers was about 15-2. There was one guy who made his girlfriend roll down her window so he could lean across her while driving and yell out the window that we were "FUCKING IDIOTS!!!" And there was one guy who stayed on the other side of the street, but shook his fists and gave us the finger from inside the car. That's about par for the course, though usually they aren't that infuriated. Usually they just share with us in an earnest manner that "All Lives Matter." Thinking, I guess, that maybe this hasn't occurred to us . . . . I always wonder what the real oppositional types are thinking. Surely they aren't trying to say that black lives DON'T matter. That would be a bit of a stretch for people who aren't actually Nazis. One possibility is that they think "People who hold BLM signs are liberals, and liberals are terrible people, so I need to let them know how awful they are." Or perhaps they think that "Black Lives Matter" is really just a code phrase for saying that people like them don't matter, so they need to let us know that we're horrible people for not caring about THEM. I feel sad that they think it's either/or.

Trudging back uphill to my car, I started to feel out of breath and a bit wobbly. I think it was the cold air triggering my asthma, plus maybe the fact that I'm a pint low on red blood cells. A nice cup of tea at home helped. Which reminds me of a joke I saw on Facebook:
"Why did Karl Marx hate Earl Grey?"
"Because all proper tea is theft!"

Some people believe that there's an invisible only in front of Black Lives Matter. I think that says more about them than about anyone else.

DITTO. To me, it shows how amazingly self-centered people can be.
