Mirage of Simmer
Jul. 20th, 2023 09:37 pmToday was a little more laid-back than yesterday. Once everyone was up and dressed, we made our way to the bookstore. People wandered around and found a few books, and then we all sat at a table and had coffee (except for Raptor, who had Jelly Bellies and a glass of water). The Redhead had brought along her travel watercolors, and produced a lovely painting of a bunch of thistles in her sketchbook. The Nipper and I wrote a bit in our notebooks. Raptor read his new book of Garfield cartoons. The Sparrowhawk confessed to feeling somewhat intimidated by so many artists at his table. While we were there, a torrential, monsoon-like rainstorm passed by, and then opened up again to a beautiful blue sky.
We went home and had some lunch, and in the Redhead's case, a nap, and for the Nipper and the Sparrowhawk, a philosophical discussion. Then the Redhead and Nipper went to see "Oppenheimer." We stayed with Raptor, and watched a couple of movies and played some Uno. He had hot dogs, green beans, and strawberries for dinner, along with his movie popcorn. I cooked some wild boar and mushroom bratwurst and some antelope hamburgers that I bought in the Manager's Special section. They were quite tasty. We also had green beans and various leftovers. The Redhead and Nipper came home more or less shattered by the movie, and helped themselves to a consoling portion. The Redhead is now doing a portrait of Oppenheimer. I'm not sure I'm really looking forward to this grueling experience, but I guess it's art. . . .
