Last night we were awakened by a tremendous thunderclap. It was like a BOMB right over the house! The first thing I always do these days is look around to see if the power is still on. Lucky for us, it was. It rained hard again, but the grass dried off enough later that the Sparrowhawk was finally able to finish mowing the back yard. Our neighbor Irish was outside working on the buckthorn. We sympathized about how much work needs doing in our respective yards. I was checking on the pots where I'm hoping the paw paws are coming up at last! Something is coming up. I hope it's what I want and not more stoopid invasive plants. Paw paws are one of the things I'd like to replace the buckthorn with. Irish and I talked about maybe taking down the big privet bush between our houses and letting some more redbuds grow instead. They are pretty and they are native, even though they're so prolific that they are a pain in the neck to keep out of the flower beds.

While the Sparrowhawk was mowing, I went for a walk. Remarkably, after one day of being super sore, my knee is getting better. I think it was the exercise and swimming that did it, so I don't want to slack off again if I can help it. Rule one is Keep Moving. Rule two is Don't Fall Down. If you can manage both of those at the same time, you're golden. I was slowed down by running into more neighbors. First I met G. on the corner, suited up for a bike ride. His wife was chatting with another neighbor, so he talked to me for a minute. We learned that we both have sons who live in Chicago, and have other similarities, such as liking the city life, whereas we wish they'd move back to Michigan! It's always interesting when you talk to someone for five minutes and find that you have more in common than you thought. The next interruption was a pair of retired nuns. We agreed it was a beautiful day, and then they filled me in on some information about the building project on the property where the woodsy path is. In exchange, I informed them that St. Francis and St. Dominic were contemporaries--something they didn't know even though they are Dominicans! Tch, tch. Poor catechesis!

Purple coneflowers, white daisies, and golden compass plants are blooming again. The Sparrowhawk made stir fry for dinner. I helped by prepping the vegetables. We had baby squash, baby carrots, sweet onion, and beet greens. He marinated the chicken, boiled rice, and cooked it all up. It's all good, but the veggies are always my favorite! These were particularly good and fresh.
