This is the third time I've officially had covid. I suspect that I've had it at least once more, but because tests are unreliable etc. I'll never know. The first time was May 2022. I also had it in May of this year, and now--only three months later! How unfair is that? The first time was a little scary because I didn't know what to expect, and because I had a fever for a couple of days and things seemed a wee bit hallucinatory. I took some molnupiravir, because that's what was offered me. It seemed to help, and was reassuring, but I don't think I was ever really at risk of developing a severe case. When I had it in May, it wasn't that bad, and I didn't bother to request an antiviral, because I figured by the time I got some, I'd be over it. My current case is sort of medium, in between the two. I don't think I'll bother about the Paxlovid this time either. Meh. I have a cough that is disagreeable because it keeps me from sleeping. It's currently aggravated by a powerful reek of skunk that is wafting through the open windows. Faugh.

Perhaps I should belatedly issue a content warning that this whole post will probably be about covid, because I don't have much else to talk about right now. I tried to call Madame yesterday to warn her that I wouldn't be coming to see her today. She didn't pick up. I sent her a text, but got no reply. I also texted Mademoiselle so she'd know what the story was, and learned from her that she and her mom have an appointment next week at a retirement community for Madame to be assessed for her care needs. Fingers crossed. I FaceTimed Madame again today. She said she didn't have her hearing aids in, and that she would call me back, which she did not do--but she did get the message that I wasn't coming. I didn't want her pottering about at the end of her driveway expecting me to show up.

I spent last night in a dream state where my body was like some satrapy of a vast colonial empire, and I was oppressed by various alien bureaucracies. The line for obtaining an oxygen permit, for example, was unconscionably long. I had a lot of mutinous thoughts, but I felt it would be better to get past the current crisis before initiating any rash action.

What the Paxlovid is good for is lessening the chance of ending up with Long Covid, which you do not want.
