My complaint of the day is about vacuum cleaners again. Every time I get that thing out, I imagine that this time will be different. This time, I will surely wield the dread device with skilled insouciance, swooshing up every bit of dust in sight. Instead, things clank and crash, and it turns on and off because I touch it wrong, and there's no way to manage the hose and nozzle that doesn't make my back hurt. I was vacuuming after dark, an activity I normally avoid, because I was trying to stop feeling irritable due to not getting anything done.

I had a long conversation with Queenie this morning. We both had holidays that required quite a lot of debriefing. Then there were various other distractions. I realized we needed some actual food, but I haven't been grocery shopping. I thawed out some chicken and gave it a bit of a coating with herbs and seasonings, browned it with onions and mushrooms, threw it in the oven with a splash of white wine. There were some leftover mashed potatoes, and I finally managed to wash the lettuce and make salad. The Sparrowhawk went to the gym, and I had the aforementioned struggle with the vacuum cleaner, ran a load of laundry through the wash, and cleaned the bathroom. So now I feel as if SOMETHING has been done. While I was on the phone with Queenie, my friend from Minnesota called, but jeez Louise, how many hours can a person spend on the phone in a given day . . . she'll have to wait until tomorrow. Also while I was on the phone, the Sparrowhawk told Dr. Music we can watch Bird Baby in the morning, so the good doctor can have some time to visit middle school children's choirs. I have failed once again to call the radiology department to schedule a mammography and a bone scan. I don't want either one, but my doctor does.

just spitballing here, but

stop when you're done. i stopped with the mammograms at least 10 years ago, possibly more. my doc & i discussed bone density (and my reluctance to submit), and she said welp. if you get the thing, and it shows that you're at osteopenia, i will suggest you take calcium. we could just skip the test, i'll make the suggestion, and oh look, costco has it on sale this week.

docs don't much like to argue with me. so, blessedly, usually they don't.

but i can see the appeal of "i never see that!" a dentist once praised my gum hygiene and i preened for days.

You did a ton! And I find is satisfying to make a meal from what's on hand sometimes.
