I have imported so many foodstuffs into this house. It took me twice as long as usual to get through the grocery store. I vacillate between "OMG why did I buy all this" and "OMG I don't have enough." I spent an amount I will not confess to. Everything is more expensive. However, I saved an amount equal to 20% of the total, and got a 40 cents per gallon gas coupon, plus a 10 dollar coupon for my next purchase. Tony the melodious checker sang "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" while bagging my stuff. I couldn't find any pepperoni for Raptor, but the Sparrowhawk found some when he went out to buy beer later. The one thing I couldn't find was whole wheat flour. NONE. It seems a weird thing for them to run out of. So I had to make four enormous loaves of basically white bread with oatmeal. I put in extra honey and a stick of butter so it might have more flavor. I gave the Sparrowhawk a sample, and he was like om nom nom, so I guess it's all right.

The Duchess invited us (the two of us plus the Nipper and family) to Christmas Dinner on the 25th, and promptly caught a tummy virus from Bird Baby. She assures me she'll be better by Monday, and I hope so! It does add a certain note of contingency to my planning, however. Also, she doesn't know how to cook anything gluten free, and the traditional dinner is meat pie. So I will have to bring something for the Redhead to eat. I'll probably make boeuf Bourguignon, which will be like the insides of a meat pie.

And then I said I'd bring a dessert. Person A cannot eat eggs. Person B cannot eat nuts. Person C cannot eat gluten. This is like one of those puzzles where you have a goat, a cabbage, and a wolf, and you have to take them all across the river in a small boat. I think I will have to make two cakes, one without flour and one without eggs, with no nuts in either. That should work--IF I can squeeze that many minutes out of the remaining hours in the next couple of days.

Fingers crossed all your food adventures go well! I bought some yeast yesterday. Pondering what I will make with it.
