It's been sunny but cold. I didn't get out for a walk for the last couple of days, but I succeeded in making myself go out today. On the homeward loop, I'm going east, so I can see my shadow stretched out before me. It's easy to see that I'm walking crooked. I tried to straighten out my gait, but I couldn't. I guess I just limp now. This is not really a fun thought.

No church today. The Sparrowhawk has another cold! It's very sad. Also, today's sermon topic was not something I wanted to listen to, even though I probably would have agreed with it. I didn't join the Unitarian church so I could sit and listen to people tell me what to think. The only reason I agreed to go there was that I thought they wouldn't do that.

This is Palm Sunday, when in the old days I would have gone around to the Catholic Church to collect my palm fronds for the year. Easter week is always sad for me. In the past, it was a time of anticipation and bustle, and of course not eating meat and doing extra church and so forth. It finished up on Easter Sunday with a grand party, lots of friends, treats, and family. It's not like that any more. We had developed some alternative traditions, like kite flying, when we lived in Kansas and Texas, but we've tried that a couple of times in Michigan, and it has been rather dismal! It's too early in the year. It rains (or snows!), and it's cold, and the kites always get caught in a tree and die a sad death. When we lived in Pennsylvania, the Sparrowhawk and I used to go down to the main street of the borough on Good Friday, and have wagyu beef bento boxes for lunch at the Japanese restaurant, while we watched the Catholics parade down to St. Agnes to assume the blame for killing Jesus. Guilt has never been so delicious. It has umami flavor, I think.
