How is a person supposed to put everything away, do laundry, and generally tidy up after a trip when they have so many social obligations?? Rhetorical question because I already know the answer: that isn't happening. Woke up very happy to be in my own house, and wished I could stay there longer, but--Madame Day! It was pretty successful. I got there a few minutes before she was ready, so I went down to her room to get her, and was able to snoopily notice that her hearing aid battery was not properly plugged in and was not charging. I was able to get it connected correctly so the light came on. It's almost impossible for me, and able bodied person, to fix it right. I don't know how they expect anyone with any kind of disability to do it. If they tested these things with a target population, they might actually learn something. But no, that would make too much sense.

Madame remembered all about Mademoiselle taking her to park to see the partial eclipse, and I am so happy for her. She actually didn't talk about her house and car at all. She did mention that her leg hurt a lot, even though she's been getting lots of physical therapy. I asked if it was the leg that she had two surgeries on, or the other one. Seeming quite miffed, she denied ever having surgery, or being in the hospital. Interesting. I just moved on from there to another topic. I wonder if that memory will ever resurface. We had an unexpected thrill today. When we entered the cafe, the line was quite long, with a lot of teenage kids ahead of us. She said her leg was hurting, so I suggested we get a table, and return to buy lunch when the line was shorter. The line never got shorter! It kept getting longer and longer. More and more middle-school or young high school children swarmed to the counter from every corner of the store. I couldn't believe how many they were. It was quite enjoyable to watch their shenanigans. Finally two school buses appeared at the door, and all the kids crowded out the door and got on board. There must have been a hundred of them! I asked the nice young woman at the counter what was going on, and she said it was a school field trip that for some reason decided to stop there for a snack. "It was only for that one hour," she said, "but it was awful!" I think she just meant awful because it was so super-busy, as the kids themselves seemed quite nice.

This evening we had our weekly discussion group that Deb and the Prussian are part of. Deb had an awful case of laryngitis and had to make the Prussian read her typed comments out loud. It was quite amusing, but we missed her actual voice and hope that she'll be better next time. Tomorrow morning, Dragonfly is coming over for our periodic chat and meditation. I guess she'll just have to put up with a certain amount of disarray. Hopefully I still have one set of clean-ish clothing. Heaven knows when I will get to the grocery store . . . .

veritable human dynamo, you

the quotidian will be handled on an as-needed basis.
sometimes i invite friends over to talk to me while i'm doing stuff i won't do unless i have company. i don't think anybody's ever objected, either.

as for madame's hearing aid battery charger: first they fired the proofreaders, then the copy editors, then the user interface experts, and then quality assurance. why would they spend money on that stuff?

capitalism is a fn cancer, is what it is.

My friend Kimi's great-aunt, who is over 100, decided not to go outside for the eclipse, but did condescend to have her wheelchair parked in the doorway, so she had a good view.

The world is so ableist I can't even. There is a long list of not-disability-friendly things in my apartment alone, never mind the world at large. Madame has a true friend in you. I salute you.
