Dahlia of Bliss
Apr. 20th, 2024 10:26 pmAnother day of not much accomplishment. I sent birthday greetings to Queenie, and she sent me a picture of herself and both of her beautiful daughters, who were visiting with her in honor of the occasion. A visit with the children is the most wonderful present, as I know. Tomorrow is the anniversary of Dr. Nurse's wedding. Six years ago, Queenie was at my house on her birthday, preparing to go to the wedding on the following day. My son the Nipper was there too, and his birthday is in just a few days, so I made a cake for each of them. And then, because the Redhead can't eat gluten, I made another cake for her! It was a very festive occasion. I enjoyed it even more than the wedding, which was also lovely. My mother was still alive, and staying at my house too. That part was a bit arduous, but she was in her element, reveling in the presence of all the grandchildren.
Today the weather was blustery and cold! Last week it was like summer, and now it's like winter again. The Sparrowhawk went out to mow the lawn, and came back inside quite chilled and tired. I put a blanket on him and went out for a walk. It was cold! I didn't stay out too long, because I wanted a few extra minutes to prep dinner. I thawed out a pork loin and made one of my usual veggie jumbles--onions, potatoes, carrots, apples, cabbage. I browned it all in the big red pot and left it to the Sparrowhawk to season and put in the oven. About then it was time to get dressed for church, but neither of us was really up for it. The Sparrowhawk finally said it would be a relief to stay home. "In that case," I naughtily said, "could we possibly just take a nap instead?" This suggestion was received with much joy. Both of us were out like a light in minutes, and slept for more than an hour. Yes, we had turned the oven off before retiring . . . . When we woke up, it was still light, which is a strange thing these days. The light lasts for such a long time. It's a marvel. And our dinner was still hot and ready, so we fetched the pot to the table and ate it. And then sat in the living room where we could watch the sunset while reading in our comfy spots. The Sparrowhawk said fondly, "I love this house."
