SpringCrocus of Bloom
Apr. 27th, 2024 10:05 pmNothing says springtime like two old people, one with compromised mobility, putting together cheap lawn furniture. We really just wanted the chairs and the umbrella, but they came with a table. Our first hurdle was the apparent lack of fastenings or instructions. I suggested the Sparrowhawk look again at the packaging, to see if something might be taped to the interior. He came back with a baggie containing the missing items, which had been right where I thought they might be. "Girl Scouts are the best!" he commented. Well, I was once a Girl Scout, though I'm not sure what that has to do with screws and bolts. We then had a problem because one of the table legs was not properly aligned, so the screw wouldn't go through the holes assigned to it. The leg had to slot into a little bracket, which was said to be adjustable, but didn't feel like it. The Sparrowhawk came up with the answer to that. I gripped the bracket with a pair of stout pliers, and he hit the pliers with the hammer, thus sliding the bracket slowly into place. Finally we were able to screw the errant leg on, and all is well as far as we know. All right, I admit that I'm not 100% UNcompromised either, mobility-wise. Getting up and down from the ground as I put things together isn't completely smooth and seamless. My hip had a bit of a crimp in it for some time afterwards. Maybe I should have grasped the joint with the pliers and had the Sparrowhawk whack it into place with the hammer. If only it were that simple.
We both had a nap again, due to not sleeping well again. The other thing that says springtime is the tree frogs. Something about the weather or the rain has sent them absolutely bonkers and they are trilling madly away like a flock of drunken sopranos auditioning for the opera. They are very noisy, and I think there's one on a tree outside our window. I had so many plans, but nap, table assembly, and a trip to church were all I got done today. The temperature went up to 78 in the afternoon, and I had to break out a whole different wardrobe. I am not ready for this!

Date: 2024-04-28 06:31 am (UTC)so far, i'm mostly finessing this by bending down/sorta doing a squat and pulling up weeds. which are thigh high, so i don't have to bend that much.
i think i'll probably get that hip replaced, if it's gonna be a bitch about it.
