Violet of Bluster
Mar. 27th, 2018 09:53 pmIt rained in the night. I opened up the Magic Door before getting into bed and took a sniff of the wet night air. It smelled like real rain, not like the dread Wintry Mix that's what we've been getting every time it's not snow. The daffodil shoots have some little swellings at the tops of the stems, which I think are incipient buds. However, it's predicted that the weather will turn cold again and we might have snow showers next time.
The Sparrowhawk took a turn for the worse, too. He packed up the candy and mailed it off, but when he came home, he had that fragile and pathetic look around the eyes that he gets when he's sick. He was going to take a nap on the couch, because he doesn't like to go upstairs and be away from me. I suggested he let me warm up some soup for him while he put on his jammies, and then have a nap in the real bed, and I would sit up there on the bed next to him. This turned out to be an excellent idea, though I had to sneak off downstairs again after awhile so I could call my mother without waking him up. When he came down, he was sounding a lot better, and said he should have taken my advice when I told him to nap more earlier. I usually do know these things . . . . I've had a lot of experience.
Deb called this morning, and it was discovered that she's free on Easter. I had assumed she'd be with some of her kids, but they are otherwise occupied. She said she'd love to have dinner with us and Mother, if it was convenient. So I called my mother as soon as I got off the phone, and she answered! I had caught her just before lunch, and she said when she went down to the dining room, she'd ask them to reserve two more places for Sunday. Tonight, when I called, she had to hang up on me after five minutes, because some other friend had come to the door. She said she'd call me back, but didn't. Until 9:30, when I had given up on her. However, I found out what I needed to know: she made the reservations, so we're good to go.
