In brief: slept badly, had to take a nap, hence no accomplishment of anything this morning. Revived briefly for Zoom with Deb and the Prussian, which always cheers me up. Some scribbling of things in a notebook while I tried to stave off a return to somnolence with a cup of tea. Briefly joined in with the Sparrowhawk's efforts to tidy up the house for his men's group coming over. A friend gave me a lift to a coffee shop for a low-key birthday celebration. I had espresso at 7 pm, and it was barely enough to keep me awake. I survived just until it was time to come home. I feel like crap.

Mademoiselle texted me rather confusingly that Madame is supposed to see the house doctor who comes around on Wednesdays, so could I take her out a little later than usual, because last week, they told Mademoiselle that her mother had gone out to lunch already when the doctor came. As I recall, we were late going out last week because Madame took longer to get ready. And yet I saw no doctor. So I'm wondering just when this doctor really arrives. I promised to ask when I get there tomorrow. Madame is having edema of her legs and shortness of breath. Oh, also Mademoiselle is going to Colorado for a week, but didn't tell Madame because this would just confuse her. I feel exasperation. A statement that should be followed by several exclamation points!!!!! I wonder what kind of shape Madame will be in when I arrive. I'm not thrilled to take a person with heart issues out to lunch.

I volunteered to bring some flowers for the birthday girl, and the Sparrowhawk kindly picked them up from our favorite florist. She loved them. I could tell by the way her face lit up. She said to tell him he had very good taste--which he does. Some of the other ladies brought her a gift of chocolate. On the way home, she pressed me to take it, because she's diabetic and didn't want to eat it, although she didn't want to hurt their feelings by saying so. So the Sparrowhawk is rewarded for his kindness with some excellent dark chocolate cherries.

The edema really needs to be looked at, As You Know Bob. Good luck with the outing.

Mmmm, chocolate.
