Just tidying things up for the night, after a busy day. In the morning, it was still dark grey and snowing. The snow is fluffy and sparkly, because the temperature has stayed low, in the 20s. The Nipper and the Redhead went out to lunch and to see Wicked, leaving Raptor with us, as he had no interest in seeing Wicked. He amuses himself quite well, but as his grandparents, we never want him to amuse himself, so we always try to come up with activities. First I made him some lunch. He likes to take it off to his room and eat it there, but courteously asked me first if I minded. He was concerned that I might need company. What a sweetheart! I let him go until the Sparrowhawk came back from his errands, and then summoned him so we could watch a movie together. He chose "Maxwells vs. the Machines," which is quite charming except that as usual Dad is the comic relief, and I felt they overdid it a little bit. I made popcorn, and we enjoyed the movie together. It actually caused Grandad to tear up a little. I learned how a moose says "I love you," which will come in handy, I'm sure. Raptor and I practiced a bit. Again we let Raptor have some down time, and then carried him off to the small lake to watch the snow falling into the water. It was a magical, spooky scene, the lake so grey and so obscured by blowing snow that you could hardly see where the water started or ended. We made snowballs and threw them into the water, or at the flock of seagulls that swooped over us, probably wondering if we were throwing treats! Then there was a general throwing of snowballs at each other, and then I made a fox and geese circle in the fresh snow and we all chased each other around the paths until tired. We drove past the Village Christmas tree, all lighted up in the dusk, and then home. Raptor's parental units arrived home shortly after we did.

I jumped ahead by one day and put out the red Advent candles and the Advent calendars. Everyone had the leftovers of their preference. There are a great many. The Sparrowhawk supervised while the Nipper built a fire, and I put the first Revels Christmas album on, because they won't be back for Christmas, so they'll miss hearing it then. We had cocoa bombs and chocolate. But all good things come to an end. They have a long drive home tomorrow. I finally divvied up and put away the turkey stock that had been simmering on the stove. I think I wasted some of the turkey by not cutting it up very precisely, but I can't do everything just right. I have to be content with good enough.

What a glorious day. Particularly watching the snow over the lake.
